About: ‘A history of growing and selling food locally in Whangārei’.

Growing food locally is in Whangārei’s roots. Kiwi North’s latest exhibition tells the story of Whangārei’s first commercial gardens, the rise of the country’s largest fruit growing industry and early grocery and fruiterer shops around town. Join us to explore historic photographs, advertising, kitchen and garden tools. Meet some of our local community gardeners that are leading us in whanaungatanga, developing relationships through shared experiences and working together, providing people with a sense of belonging. They are inspiring us to get back to our roots and get back into our gardens to feed our families, our neighbours and those in need.
