Top acts come north for a laugh

Top
Following on from the success of TV3’s comedy show ‘7 Days’ broadcast from Whangarei during the Matariki Festival, another major comedy is coming to Whangarei.

Venues and Events Whangarei have partnered with Comedy Gold’s Andre King to bring the Northern Exposure Comedy Road Show to both Whangarei and Kaitaia this November.

The show will feature four great comedians - Irishman Alan McElroy, Aaron “Fig” Beard, Welsh/ Samoan comedian James Nokise and headline act Andre King.

“We are really excited at the opportunity to work with Andre in bringing some top quality entertainment to Northland. Comedy is very popular up here and why not, laughter is definitely the best medicine,” said Marketing & Events Manager Rachel O’Gorman.

“We are looking to do quarterly shows with Comedy Gold who will be bringing national and international comedians to ensure Northlanders get a regular dose of humour.”

Mrs O’Gorman said the upcoming Road Show will run over two nights only - 5 November in Kaitaia at the Te Ahu Centre and 6 November in Whangarei at Forum North with both shows starting at 7.30pm. Tickets are $25 per person available from Ticketek, Forum North and Kaitaia i-Site

The line up

Aaron Beard

Aaron can fly a plane, knows everything about car tyres, had a brief stint in the army and he's been on Shortland Street. He was a con artist on TV3's The Real Hustle and also spent 2 years cleaning portaloos in Hamilton.
He's done every role Pak ‘n’ Save Kaitaia had to offer, has MC’d the Fritter Festival for the last two years and now tours the country's comedy stages doing what he loves. This man was BORN to do comedy.

Alan McElroy

After temporarily paralysing his mother during child birth, Dubliner Alan McElroy dragged his huge noggin around, accumulating scratches and scrapes and carpet burn from the never flooring that devoured Ireland in the 1980s. As the Old Country moved into the 90s, so did the flooring. Heavily influenced by home decorating television shows, the countless splinters stuck from wooden floors had Alan looking like a shunned, unkempt hedgehog.

It took 28 years before Alan grew into his own mallet-of-head and was finally able to leave Ireland and fly to New Zealand, without being forced to pay an extra largebaggage fee.

Now he regularly performs on the Auckland scene to laughter, LAUGHTER!

James Nokise

As seen on Maori TV’s Waitangi Comedy Boil Up & Crack Up, TV3 Comedy Gala and Ben and Steve World Famous in...

2013 Fred Dagg Comedy Award nominee and 2 time Billy T Comedy Award nominee, Welsh/Samoan comedian, James Nokise, has carved out a reputation in New Zealand going after everything from gangs to politicians to stereotypes within Pacific Culture.

Over the last couple of years he's been to the Edinburgh and Adelaide Festivals, guest lectured at universities, been a member of the award winning Puppet Fiction crew, written Wellington's most popular political satire series (Public Service Announcements), all while continuing to be a regular host at Wellington and Auckland comedy clubs and as a commentator for Radio Live and 531 PI.

Andre King

Andre is a member of the ‘comedy’ elite. Regularly booked internationally, he is an extraordinary entertainer, able to perform successfully to audiences from a range of cultural, ethnic and on occasion, language backgrounds. Headlining shows throughout the UK & Europe, he has shared the billing with comedy stalwarts such as Lee Evans, Jimmy Carr & Bill Bailley. Speaker at the Hong Kong Carbine Club luncheon every year during the Hong Kong Sevens tournament, Andre consistently delivers a rollicking good show to some of the worlds business & sporting high flyers.

He is one of the few western comics to ever perform on the Macau Casino circuit and has for many years performed for various sections of the military including the Queen’s personal bodyguards – The Household Cavalry. He has performed 5 star shows internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, the Hong Kong Comedy Festival, the Jakarta Fringe Festival, the New Zealand International Comedy Festival and has been invited to perform at the San Francisco & Hollywood Comedy Festivals.

Andre King currently resides in Auckland, New Zealand where he has returned to perform as a television presenter of his own show ‘Hardcase’ on MTS Television and work on scripts for two movies and a second television series based on his previous experience as a licensed private investigator.
