Events / Endless Summer Festival

The Endless Summer Festival is a series of over 100 events for residents and visitors to enjoy held across our beautiful Whangarei District from January to March each year.

There is something different on every day from exhibitions and performances to sports events and festivals, dinners and film events to recreation and art events. The festival proudly showcases some of our finest events and unique culture and our Northland subtropical climate makes it perfect for indoor and outdoor events.

Key events include the Whangarei Fritter Festival, the Waipu Caledonian games, Inter-islander Summer Races, Opera in the Garden, Beach to Basin, sports events, fishing competitions and road bike races. In fact every event highlights the best that the Whangarei District has to offer.

Disability Access

A key feature of this year's Endless Summer Festival was to present clear and accurate information about disability access at each event within the festival. We aim to ensure that people can see what facilities are availble before they get to the event rather than taking a chance, turning up and being dissapointed. As part of the event registration process, event organisers were required to answer a few accessibility questions around whether their events have a designated viewing area, disabled car parks, wheelchair access, disabled toilets and sign language interpreters.

Each event within the body of the event information will state whether or not it has the following accessibile facilities at the venue:

  • A designated viewing area for disabled or older persons with a reasonably clear view of the main event
  • Accessible disabled car parks within 200m of the main entrance
  • Wheelchair Access. If inside, doorways are at least 760mm wide and the main body of the facility is on one level or has lift access. If outside, entrance surfaces are level and reasonably smooth.
  • Accessible disabled toilet. Has a doorway with 1200mm clear approach space, the doorway is 760mm wide and it has a 90 degree L-shaped grab rail beside the toilet.
  • A New Zealand Sign Language interpreter.

This information was also contained in the Endless Summer Festival event guide booklet. There was a key at the front of the booklet and every event has the symbols to show whether or not the event has the accessible facilties.

The information was also highlighted in each event on our Facebook page and Eventfinder.
